Hey all, Well, Euro had a little heifer yesterday. She looks fully developed, but quite on the small side, I would guess about 30 days premature. She is nursing and has that little tail waging when she does, she is keeping her tongue in her mouth and not hanging her head. I feel pretty confident that she will do just fine. I am a little concerned with her dam though. Mom had a premature calf last year as well. Unfortunately that little heifer didn't make it. But mom isn't dropping her afterbirth. Last year she was given lutalyse to help expulsion. I am going to go get some for this time as well, but hopefully by tomorrow she will have expelled it on her own with the calf nursing. Has anyone had any girls that seem to deliver early and have expulsion issues? Is there any tricks I can do to instead of giving her the shot?

Innochka, the little heifer, so far is hanging in there. Had to give her a little boost this evening as she got somewhat lethargic. Glad I remembered what an ole friend of mine had told me about an old remedy. Hopefully she will do good through the night as she is on leased land. Will head over there first thing in the morning to check on her. Gave mom lutalyse about 11:00am this morning, but wonder if in fact she had dropped the afterbirth earlier and the individual who found her didn't catch it and possibly mistook the string hanging as just the beginning of the afterbirth. Hopefully all will end up going well. These are tough cattle and I couldn't be happier with this breed.
