Hi All, I am going to start building a database to hold all available information on the whites that I can get ahold of. I have several years experience building database applications and ask any who would like to divulge information, please send it to me. Pictures are also welcome. If you have any specific questions, please send me a pm or email me.
I thank you all and hope to get tons of emails with lots of pedigree and cattle data.

Oh, the data will obviously be available.

Sherry,
What specific information are you looking for and what is your end goal? I keep good records on my cattle and may have some info to share but would like some more insight on your thoughts.

Glenn, Well, as a long time developer, I enjoy building applications first off. Also, it would be so nice to be able to trace these guys down the road. In the scheme of things there aren't a lot of Whites out there now so it will be easier if one was established now. I have started out by entering the following information: Registered Name, Birth Date, Gender, Birth Weight, Markings, Registration Numbers, Tattoo Number, Percentage BW, Generations PB, 205 and 365 weights, Breeder, Owner, Dam, Sire and how they were conceived. Like I said, it is in the beginning stages now, but already have put in over 30 animals last night late. The big thing will be the reports that will be able to be made. Will be able to print out the progeny of any animal, trace an animal's lineage as far back as is in the system, track what the traits will be and so on. Oh, that reminds me, I need to set up an area for carcass data and milking records if it is known. Don't worry, it will not be something that other than breeders can use. I do eventually want to have it on the back end of my website for individuals to view and do it by logging in to keep the information private. Also, have the Breeder and Owner address.
Does this clarify a little better? I will try to get a screen shot later and post it or send it to you if you would like.

Sherry,
How does this differ from what breed associations do today? I submit this info to the American British White Park Association.
Understand my posts are not meant to be negative only to help flesh out the idea.
I appreciate your enthusiasm for White Cattle!

Glenn, One of the big things is that the data will be available to the breeders. From what I have seen so far, you can not attain the information from the Associations, or without a fee for each one. Also, I believe you would have to own the animal to get this data from them. I know I am looking at more cattle now, and would love to be able to get more information on them. Also, I know that in breeding, a lot of times, if there ends up being an issue, it doesn't come up until 5 and 6 generations later. I have noticed with the other breed of cattle that I have, that 5 to 6 generations later, things will pop up from the background. One breeder with the other breed had a supposed pure bred pop up looking like a Guernsey. This had to be traced back quite a ways to find out where it came from. Another example is a neighbor of mine had some Holstein heifers in his herd about 20 plus years ago, but not since, and last year had 3 calves hit the ground with Holstein markings. No, don't think for one minute you are disagreeing, I understand and have no problem elaborating.

Also, I am hoping to end up with more data than is just on the pedigrees. For instance, if someone is milking, can put on the stats for that, and also other such data.

Well, so far there are 163 head now in the system and I expect to go over 200 by tonight. Have found some interesting data already, like some animals a ways back that are related. It is a little tedious putting the initial data in, but it is quite rewarding with the results.

Hi Sherry,
I am new to this board and to the BW breed. I was wondering how your database was coming? My husband and I would be very interested in it. He keeps a database of the Jersey bulls in a program of ours and we would like to start one for the BW's.
Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

i honestly will have to check to make sure i still have it. I had a bad system dump so have to make sure I had it backed up first. If i do infact still have it, i would be happy to share data. Also, if you would like, let me know what you have, pedigrees, etc, and i can add them
