This msg was originally posted by gwenger. This looked like a good thread to say that we had our first calf on March 4. It is a heifer calf out of our 2007 National Champion Female. She weighed 73 pounds and has red ears which comes form her maternal grand sire. A healthy heifer calf out of an exceptional momma, that's the way I like to start the calving year!

We are up to 5 calves since March 4. Three heifers and two bulls. We are having a good week of weather for calving in Pennsylvania. They are talking about some rain this weekend. Hate that mud for calves!
Five calves and 5 healthy ones in a row. I hope it continues and that your calving is going well.

Hi Glenn, Yes, the board has been quiet lately. Good to see you on again. Congrats on the calves, good ratio too. Wouldn't mind seeing some photos when you get some.

We're up to 88 now, and expecting about 30 more... About 38 hiefers, which is about as many 2007 hiefers we have in the corral, waiting for new grass... It does keep snowing in MN... We hope to get busy in the fields soon! Glad to hear calving is going well! Wish you the best as it continues.

Were just about done calving. Two cows and one heifer to go. So far Red 622 has sired all red marked calves. Never seen that before. Been fighting mud all winter long and know fighting it, trying to plant. Still getting high percent of bull calves. Do have some really nice looking ones. Girls 4-h calves are starting to really look good since it warmed up. We got the heifers AI to Emperor last weekend. Got two Emperor bull calves this year.

The last heifer just calved. Red eared heifer calf. So Red 622 finishes with a 100% red eared calf crop. Have not heard from the other breeders that have cows AI to him. Guest I should call some to see what color their calves are out of him. I guest we will know if he's a red dominate bull in July when the South American's start calving the couple hundred cows they have breed to him

Time to update the posting for 2009!
We started calving on March 1st and as of today have 7 healthy calves on the ground. 4 Bulls 3 Heifers. As was the case last year one of our first to calve was our 2007 Champion Female with another nice heifer calf. We have had great weather for calving, hope it hold up.
