I just got asked if I took EBT cards for purchasing beef. I am curious to know if any of you have looked into doing this? The economy here, as it is pretty much everywhere in our country right now is not too strong. I did some quick reading and there is quite a bit of licensing that must be done first. Thoughts, comments and questions would be great.

What are EBT cards? I guess I'm out of the loop on this one.

I was looking at an article this AM. It was about farmers markets & there it was - EBT. The article went on to say they were 'electronic benefit transfer' cards.
I guess another acronym for debit cards.

EBT cards are what they now call food stamps. With much of the country in the financial state it is in, more and more people are getting assistance from the government.
While I think that it would be nice to offer this as a way for individuals to purchase meats from my farm, at this time, the costs would out weigh the income. It is $80 monthly just for the machine. Also, Uncle Sam gets to have a good deal to say about the farm then. So, I will not be going further into this at this time.
If any of you can justify it, that is great.
