Here in the Southeast we have had one of the most severe droughts in known history this year. With the lack of hay and pasture grass we took the step of planting rye grass this past fall. The only problem we had was that the rains did not come in until the late November time frame. The rye is coming up slowly, but I was expecting a higher yield and faster growth. Doe's anyone have any recommendations on what needs to be done to speed up growth. We have had well over a foot of rain since it was planted. The pastures were limed last spring and we drag the fields and spread the manure for fertilizer. We have never had to worry about winter feeding before because we usually have an outstanding hay corp. I planted approx. 50 lbs for 2 acres as recommended by our local seed dealer. Any help would be appreciated.
